Obligation Free
Upon arrival, if you are not satisfied with your booked rental vehicle then you have absolutely no obligation to hire the car and any deposit paid will be refunded in full.
Rates – Tax
Rates are in New Zealand Dollars and Goods and Services Tax (GST) is included in all daily hire rates.
Payments
Payment can be made via major credit cards, cash in New Zealand Dollars or Travelers Cheques. Payment is required at the commencements of the hire.
Rental Duration
1 day = 24 hours from time of pick up. A minimum hire period may apply.
There is no charge for additional drivers.
Extensions of hire can be made by telephone.
Vehicle Insurance
All vehicles are insured with our Insurance Company for no additional charge. An insurance excess may apply if you have an accident. Our insurance cover is extremely comprehensive however windscreen, headlight glass is not included, but may be purchased as an option at NZ $5.00 per day. It is our policy if you are unfortunate to have an accident and it was not your fault you will get any insurance excess paid, back in full if we get reimbursed by our insurance company.
Insurance Excess – A Point of Difference
Most rental companies do not publish their Insurance excess rates on their web sites because many have an Insurance Excess up to $2500-$3500.
Our excess is one of the lowest in New Zealand:
$2000 and we do not push on you costly excess reduction insurance which inflates the quoted hire price.
Collision Damage Waiver is also available:
Hires over 6 days reduce the excess to $1000 for $10 a day. Or to reduce the excess to $300 for cars for $15 a day. (available in most cases).
Bond
Like all rental operators in New Zealand to guarantee the safe return of the rented vehicle we take a bond in the form of a credit card imprint or cash to the value of the insurance excess. This is held with the rental agreement and not debited against your credit card. On the completion of the hire it is returned to you or destroyed.
Drivers License
All drivers must have a valid/full driver’s licence for at least 2 years and be over 21 years of age however at our discretion a licence holder who does not meet these conditions may be acceptable but may incur a higher insurance excess. A current acceptable overseas, New Zealand or International driving licence is required by all intending drivers.
AA Roadside Assistance
All vehicles are covered by 24 hour AA Roadside Assistance.
One Way Hires
One way hires are available to Auckland, Picton, Nelson, Queenstown, Greymouth, Dunedin and Hanmer. Other areas are by request. Minimum hire days may apply. Please Contact Us.
Vehicles Booked
Vehicles will be booked by category and while every effort will be made to secure the particular make or model required, ‘Wheels Rent-A-Car’ reserve the right to substitute a similar or higher category vehicle if necessary.
Traffic Infringement’s
All unpaid traffic infringement’s received by us after the completion of the hire will incur a administration fee.
Cancellations
Any deposit paid will be refunded in full if a cancellation is made up to seven days before the commencement of the hire.
Early Return’s
Normally we do not refund if a vehicle is returned early. If a refund is given however a penalty of one day’s hire may be charged and the daily rate may be recalculated to account for the shorter hire period.

Liability
Our first priority is to serving our customers to the best of our ability however our liability e.g. non performance of a vehicle causing disruption of travel plans will extend only to the value of the hire.
